San Juan is known as “La Ciudad Amurallada” which means the walled city. Located in the Northern Coastal Plains region, San Juan is a major tourist destination of the West Indies and one of the oldest cities in the U.S. San Juan covers seven unique and distinct districts, which makes for an eclectic combination of sights and sounds for its many tourists. One of those districts is Old San Juan which is referred to as “the historic heart of the city”. There you will find Spanish colonial homes dating back hundreds of years. Not all of San Juan is historical, if you are looking for a more up-to-date location you should visit the city’s Condado, Ocean Park and Isla Verde sections which are very modern and very glamorous. These areas have been compared to Miami Beach and are home to high rise hotels, beaches and casinos.
